Urban Design

University of Agadir

The necessary extention of Grand Agadir

After winning the international tender in July 2013 for the creation of a new university campus for the University of Agadir, our team of architects, town planners and sociologists started developing a complex project to gather the needs, expectations and susceptibilities of numerous actors that converge in this part of the city.

New components were added to the initial premise of the university campus, such as the implementation of the new health care nucleus made up of hospitals and residences linked to the future medical school or the emergence of the new railway network that sets out to cross the new growth.

The proposed territorial design, hopes to blend the reticular and anthropomorphic fabric of the present city with the tracks of the today’s natural ravines diverted northwards. This way, the former ravines will become the green connections between the different parts of the campus, promoting a resilient design of the combination responsive to the large avenues of the region at the foothills of the Atlas Mountains.

On the other hand, the urban design proposes the creation of big blocks that allow for the continuity of the city’s roads but applying to the interior the design concepts of an Arab city. This way, by reinterpreting the urban structure of the Talborjt quarter, the historic city centre, a road system is designed on a small scale inside the blocks for all pedestrians, but with vehicle access only for occupiers of each block.
