The Street as a Continuous Space for Urban Encounter
The intervention takes place in Agadir, within the Talborjt district, one of the most representative urban fabrics of the city’s reconstruction after the 1960 earthquake and now undergoing a process of commercial and urban transformation.
The project focuses on Allal Ben Abdellah Street as the first phase of re urbanization, understanding this axis as a strategic connection between administrative areas and emerging commercial centres.
The proposal removes the distinction between roadway and pavement through a single continuous surface, prioritizing pedestrian use while restricting vehicle access to essential services and controlled time periods.
The street is conceived as an urban living room, where shade, pause and commercial activity structure a renewed public-space experience. Trees, terrace areas and lighting are positioned according to solar exposure and in direct relation to the existing uses along the street.
The use of local materials allows the urban image to be renewed while maintaining a strong connection to the identity of the district.
The intervention transforms the street into an active support for urban life, where continuity, comfort and local memory establish a new centrality.
